The New York Highline Ballroom was host to jazz performers Madeleine Peyroux, Regina Carter, Joe Lovano, Sonny Fortune and Antonio Hart on April 19, 2011. They were there in support of the Blue Note Jazz Benefit for Japan.

The Malaysian Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor donated 1.8 million in Malaysian currency to Japan relief. The funds will make their way to the Japanese Red Cross to help with rebuilding. The funds were raised through the Malaysian Girl Guides Association of which Rosmah is president.

Today, Japan’s nuclear facility began pumping highly radioactive water into a storage unit to be treated. The power company had pumped less contaminated water into the ocean from April 4th to 10th, 2011 to make room for this more highly contaminated water. Robots were also used to determine the radioactivity of several vessels on Sunday the 17th. Slow pumping of water will continue for some time as the plant moves toward stabilization and ultimate shut down.

The power plant’s woes continue to overshadow the human devastation that accompanied the tsunami. But companies and individuals are still keeping the Japanese people in their thoughts and actions.

Lady Gaga is the first major celebrity to confirm her participation in MTV Japan’s Video Music Aid Japan show. The show will replace the annual Video Music Awards. Proceeds from the charity show will go to the Japan Red Cross to help in Japan’s recovery.

The charity show will be held on June 25th in Mkahari Meese which in near Tokyo. It will be broadcast to 550 million homes and it is hoped that millions of dollars in will be raised from the charity production.

The Abrons Arts Centre’s Facebook Page reports that the recent April 8th New York concerts organized by John Zorn raised over $25,000 for Japan!
