Duke & Duchess of Cambridge – charity in their wedding prayer

It has long been anticipated that Prince William’s new bride would dedicate her life to giving to others. The royal wedding prayer appears to confirm these charitable intentions. Written by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge themselves, it reads:

“God our father…in the busyness of each day, keep our eyes fixed on what is real and important in life, and help us to be generous with our time, love and energy. Strengthened by our union, help us to serve and comfort those who suffer. We ask this in the spirit of Jesus Christ.”

These words speak volumes about the future intentions of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The creation of the Royal Wedding Charity Gift Fund also supported this goal of charitable giving. We wait with anticipation to see what charities the Duchess of Cambridge will choose to support and make her own.

Lady Gaga needs your help. She is giving away one million dollars and she wants her fans to decide where it should go. Lady Gaga has chosen five charities and her monster fans get to vote. Just go to Lady Gaga’s Facebook page and you will find the charity options there with a brief description of each.

Her Facebook Page says: ” Lady Gaga is partnering with Robin Hood, New York’s largest poverty-fighting organization, to give away $1 million. 100% of the money will support nonprofits that help teens living in poverty…Vote for your favourite and donate.”

Participants can also win free tickets to a private show by Lady Gaga benefiting Robin Hood.

Below are each of the charities with links to their home page so you can decide which one to choose. Then go to Lady Gaga’s Facebook Page and finish the transaction.

This is a great gesture by a Charity Superstar - Lady Gaga. Thank you once again Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga also recently donated $1.5 million to Japan relief through the sale of a Lady Gaga Prayer Bracelet.

Admirers of future Princess Catherine can still donate to charity fund

Celebrity Short Stories Inc. took the plunge and donated to the Royal Wedding Charity Fund. We chose from the category, Children Fulfilling their Potential, and we hope that the money will go to Beatbullying for reasons mentioned in an earlier blog (check it out).

Admirers of Kate Middleton and Prince William still have time to donate. And it is so cool to send wishes to the couple once the donation-transaction is complete. Not that Prince William and Kate Middleton will ever actually read all the good wishes - but it was still nice to think that they might. I thanked them for starting the charity fund and was sure that large numbers of young couples would follow suit at other weddings, such that many many charities will benefit from their thoughtfulness, even after the big day. I also wished the couple much joy and happiness in their life together; I hoped that their wedding day would be profound and magnificent; and finally, I postulated that their generous ways would continue after their wedding day. Then I hit the send button and off the message went into the ether. I have not checked to see if it was actually recorded in the book of good wishes, but I truly hope so. My tip for others? Don’t forget to call Kate, ‘Miss Catherine Middleton’. I mistakenly called her Kate Middleton and that may have been a faux pas. Perhaps the editors will change it before it goes ‘live’.

So, if you are thinking of donating, I would suggest you check out the royal charities shortly. It is worth it to be part of the historic day.

Future Princess Kate – Charity Work Minimal for First Two Years

Prince William has asked that the role of the new royal couple be limited for the first two years of their marriage.

Mirroring the Queen and Prince Philip’s early happy life together, the young Prince William sees this as the way to ease his future wife, Kate Middleton, into the rigours of public life without the dire consequences that can come with the post.

It is true that the world will be clamouring to examine the future Princess’s every public appearance and word. This is sure to be an overwhelming experience for her, no matter how prepared Kate Middleton may think she is.

So charities may have to wait, as future ‘Princess Kate’ becomes more comfortable with her new role.

Future Princess Catherine – Charity Chronicles Part III

We recently brought you Kate Middleton’s Charity Chronicles – Part I – which was a review of the charities Kate Middleton participated in prior to her engagement. Charity Chronicles – Part II was a more in-depth look at the Royal Wedding Charity Gift Fund. And now Part III is the chronicling of Kate Middleton’s charity appearances after the engagement. Let’s take a look at Kate Middleton’s charity activity since the engagement:

Of greatest significance was the actual engagement interview of Kate Middleton and Prince William (see below) which was a virtual windfall for charities such as Help for Heroes, Centrepoint (a charity providing help for the homeless) and Tusk Trust (a charity for wildlife conservation). The funding came primarily from non-commonwealth countries that paid 1,500 GBP per minute for footage of the interview.

In addition to the above charities, Kate Middleton attended a Christmas reception with Prince William for the Teen Cancer Trustcharity in December 2010. The charity event raised 35,000 GBP and the funds were directed to the Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for a special cancer unit for young people between the ages of 13 and 24.

Also in December 2010, Kate Middleton attended and helped at a Christmas Carol charity concert held at St. Luke’s Church in Chelsey. The event raised funds for the Henry von Straubenzee Memorial Fund, for which Prince William and Prince Harry are Patrons. Kate was seen helping at the charity event – lighting candles prior to the concert and helping clean up afterwards.

In February 2011, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended a naming ceremony as guests of honor. The Royal National Lifeboat Institutionis an independent charity that funds the construction and placement of lifeboats throughout Great Britain to save lives at sea. The naming ceremony was for a lifeboat called Atlantic 85 Lifeboat. It was held at Trearddur Bay Lifeboat Station in Anglesey, Wales.

Perhaps future Princess Catherine will choose one or more of these charities to work with when she takes on her royal duties.

Prince William and future Princess Catherine – Charity Wedding Guests

If you can judge a person by his or her friends, then Prince William and future Princess Catherine are surely charitable souls. Their wedding guests include representatives from many charitable organizations that the couple (although primarily Prince William) have come to know over the years.

The following charities will be represented at the royal wedding, with guests being those representatives closest to William and Kate (click here for all our charity-news about Kate Middleton):

Tusk Trust:This is a conservation-oriented charity and is one of the charities that Prince William and Kate Middleton chose to benefit from the proceeds of their first post-engagement interview. Charlie Mayhew is the Chief Executive of Tusk Trust and will attend the wedding. Mr. Barty Pleydell-Bouverie will also attend. Mr. Pleydell-Bouverie was responsible for an African bike tour fundraiser three years ago for the Tusk Trust.

Child Bereavement Charity: This charity works with children who have been bereaved and with families who have lost a child. This type of charity is obviously very close to the hearts of both Prince William and Catherine given that they chose a similar charity, the Cruse Bereavement Care Fund for their Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund. Mrs. Ann Chalmers, Chief Executive, and Mrs. Julia Samuel, Chair, of the Child Bereavement Charity will both attend the royal wedding.

Centrepoint: Centrepoint is a charity that helps give homeless young people a future. It is also one of the charities that benefited from the proceeds of William and Kate’s first post-engagement interview. Mr. Seyi Obakin is the Chief Executive who spent time on the streets with Prince William to raise awareness of homelessness. Mr. Obakin will be a guest at the royal wedding. Prince William, like his mother, Princess Diana, is Patron of Centrepoint.

Ian Thorpe’s Fountain for Youth: This organization was created by Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe and focuses on advocacy for the needs of disadvantaged children in Australia. Prince William became friends with Ian during a visit to Australia in 2010 and continues to support the charity. Ian Thorpe will be a guest at the royal wedding.

Help for Heroes: This charity supports members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in service to their country. Prince William and Prince Harry support this charity. The charity was developed by Mr. and Mrs. Bryn Parry who will be guests at the royal wedding.

Burnaby Blue Foundation: This is a Foundation that grew out of an expedition to Azerbaijan – following the route of Colonel Frederick Gustavus Burnaby. The expedition resulted in community projects that provide support to people in Azerbaijan and, more recently, Kenya. Prince Harry has participated in some of these community projects. Major Tom Archer-Burton, who led one of the Burnaby Blue expeditions, was Prince William’s and Prince Harry’s Commanding Officer in the Household Cavalry. Major Archer-Burton will attend the wedding.

SkillForce: This is an education charity that works with at-risk young people to help them obtain the skills they need to become productive members of the work force. Prince William has been Patron of SkillForce since 2009. Chief Executive, Peter Cross, has received an invitation to the wedding (and will attend).

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust: The Royal Marsden is a world-leading cancer treatment, research and education centre. Mrs. Tessa Green is former Chairman and has received an invitation to the wedding.

Mountain Rescue: This organization liaises with various government departments in the running of mountain and cave rescues. The chairman of Mountain Rescue, Mr. David Allan, has been invited to the royal wedding. Prince William became patron of the charitable organization in 2007.

Fields in Trust: This Trust protects and improves outdoor playing fields and spaces in the United Kingdom. As part of the Trust, the ”Queen Elizabeth Fields” was created in honor of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Prince William is Patron of this initiative. Mrs. Alison Moore-Gwyn, Chief Executive of Fields in Trust, will be a guest at the wedding.

Although the above charities are not part of the Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund, they are all charities supported by the royal couple. After the excitement of the royal wedding curtails, it is highly likely that Prince William and soon-to-be Princess Catherine would be very grateful if these charities were supported by any of their admirers.

Will Angelina Jolie’s Louis Vuitton profits go to charity?

Angelina Jolie will be featured in a major ad campaign for Louis Vuitton, the French designer, this summer.

We are not sure if some of the $10 million Angelina Jolie will be receiving for this association with Vuitton will go to charity. But given that the profits from Angelina Jolie’s jewelry line, The Style of Jolie, is going to The Education Partnership for Children in Conflict, it is quite possible that some of the $10 million will see its way to refugees from countries in conflict.

Russell Brand interview shows he’s a charitable guy – we think

In a recent interview, Russell Brand furthered his Arthur image by stating, “If I had Arthur’s billions, I’d give them away to the poor…

“Because I’ve given away those billions, people would clamour to be part of this glorious new revolution. The Russ-olution.”

“I could take over the world through altruism, generosity and genuine socialism…”

So, is Russell Brand a charitable guy or not? It seems a bit unlikely from the one-liners, cheeky comments and libidinal characters he delivers & plays in his movies. But what about the real Russell Brand?

We suspect there’s more to Russell Brand than is reflected in his characters. The words in his interview suggest that, yes in fact, Russell Brand is a charitable guy. He also talks about his wife, Katy Perry, with great affection and reveals a healthy attempt to make things work for the couple despite their challenging schedules. It sounds like children are in the near future for Russell Brand and Katy Perry as well.

As for Katy Perry, we love her recent appearance on American Idol and her contribution to Japan relief.

Jazz Musicians participate in NYC Japan Benefit

The New York Highline Ballroom was host to jazz performers Madeleine Peyroux, Regina Carter, Joe Lovano, Sonny Fortune and Antonio Hart on April 19, 2011. They were there in support of the Blue Note Jazz Benefit for Japan. Also in the line-up of international jazz musicians were Don Bryon, Harry Allen, Karrin Allyson and many others.

Funds raised were earmarked for the survivors of the March 11th earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The Concert billing indicated that 100% of the ticket proceeds were to be donated to the Japan Relief and Recovery Fund spearheaded by Direct Relief.

If you wish to donate to Japan relief, many celebrities have been choosing UNICEF or the Red Cross .
