It’s been three weeks since the raw power of an earthquake and tsunami plunged Japan into turmoil, frenzy and pain. Below are the celebrities who have shown incredible generosity in helping Japan get back on track. Many others worldwide have also donated. Celebrity Donations to Japan:
- Lady Gaga made charitable donations of $750,000 to Save the Children (Japan Earthquake Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund) via Zynga Inc’s charity campaign for Japan. She gave an additional $750,000 to the American Red Cross for their Japan relief efforts. Funds come from the Japan Prayer Bracelets created by Lady Gaga in support of Japan.
- Sandra Bullock and her family donated $1 million dollars to the American Red Cross.
- Gwen Stefani donated $1 million to Japan relief through the Save the Children’s Japan Earthquake – Tsunami in Emergency Fund. Gwen will also create a charity auction for fans to bid on tickets for a future fundraiser in Los Angeles and a limited T-shirt will also be available with 100% of the proceeds going as charitable donations to Japan relief.
- Jack Johnson dipped into his own pocket to donate $50,000.
- Boyz II Men asked their fans to raise $100,000 for Japan by making charitable donations to the Red Cross’s Japan Disaster Relief Fund .
- Charlie Sheen indicated that he will make charitable donations of $1.00 from every ticket sold for his live show. The money will go to the Red Cross to help victims of the Japan earthquake.
- Over 30 music artists, including Madonna, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and many others contributed songs for the charity album “Songs for Japan”. All funds raised will go as charitable donations to the Japanese Red Cross. Click here to view all the artists.
- Jackie Chan brought together many from the Asian entertainment industry to produce a beautiful gift of music to help Japan. The music video is on Jackie’s website. Jackie Chan also organized a fundraising concert with proceeds going as charitable donations to the Salvation Army.
- John Zorn organized two benefit concerts, the first with Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Mike Patton, Sonic Youth, Uri Caine, Cibo Matto and a host of other performers. The second concert will feature Lou Reed, Philip Glass, Hal Willner, Laurie Anderson and John Zorn, among others, with 100% of the ticket prices going as charitable donations to Japan.
- Grammy award winning Norah Jones has been confirmed for the late show at the Japan Benefit Concert to be held on April 8th at Abrons Art Center in New York.
- Snoop Dogg designed a T-shirt with related charitable donations going to Operation USA - for Japan.
- The band, Iron Maiden, who was recently touring in Japan, donated the proceeds from their T-shirt sales to the relief efforts in Japan.
- Blink 182 singer, Mark Hoppus, sold such things as the original lyrics to The Rock Show and an orange T-shirt he wore in the Dammitmusic video, and will make charitable donations to Japan with the proceeds.
- Linkin Park made charitable donations to Music for Relief in aid of Japan from the proceeds of a specially designed shirt it is offering to fans.
- Britney Spears donated VIP tickets that raised over $1000 for the Salvation Army and Japan.
- R & B Singer, Ne-Yo, designed a charity T-shirt that is available at his website. Ne-Yo also travelled to Japan to raise money through the sale of wristbands at his related shows there.
- Steve Aoki offered two deluxe ticket prizes and 8 runner up ticket prizes to people chosen from those who donated to www.musicforrelief.org .
- Band, Hanson, went on a 12 hour performance gig to raise funds for Japan via the Red Cross.
- Rebecca Black gave the charitable donations from her viral hit ‘Friday’ to Japan and her class.
- Yoko Ono asked fans for charitable donations to Happy Hearts for Japan.
- Music for Relief has downloadable songs from Linkin Park, County Crows, Enrique Iglesias and scores of others. You can download there and donate at the same time.
- British Band, Beady Eye, featuring Liam Gallagher (formerly of Oasis) will perform at London’s Brixton O2 Academy on April 3rd. This charitable donation will go to the British Red Cross for Japan.
- Justin Bieber’s locks helped raise money for Japan in Miami Beach, Florida.
- Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros. committed proceeds from Clint’s Hereafter DVD as a charitable donation to Japan.
- Guitarist Ray Toro, of My Chemical Romance, organized a special version of “SING” that is dedicated to Japan.
- Pop-punkers, Paramore, had an on-line yard sale of clothes that they have worn in past performances as well as other items.
